The Design Museum

August saw the start of production for the external and internal signage for The Design Museum, who are moving from Shad Thames into the home of the former Commonwealth Institute in Kensington.

Appointed by Willmott Dixon, who are carrying out the ?20m fit-out, Cobal has worked very closely with the architects, John Pawson, and Cartlidge Levene, graphic designers of the complex signage scheme. A wide range of materials has been designed, from Oak lettering to 32 flag poles.

The building, due to open to the public on 28th November, will triple the museum's current exhibition spaces to almost 10,000 square metres, allowing the museum to accommodate the first permanent display of its collection, alongside two temporary exhibitions. It is hoped the move will bring in an extra 400,000 visitors each year.
